With a lot of Queenslanders ( and you too Adam ) wanting to try for the W.C. team in F3D for 2011 I think we need a plan to get more F3D racing happening this year locally. Extra races at the QMARA events ( like 9 rounds in F3D instead of 5 ) or scheduled practice days at Maryborough ??
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Here's a thought... (a suggestion even)...
With many Q500 events at Maryborough on the Saturday etc... It makes sense that if we use the facilities that are already setup to do some rounds of F3D on the Sunday...
In essence that would make it an F3D day only...
I'm sure if we asked the Maryborough Club if we could use the field on the Sunday after a few (Not All) of the Q500 days we could run the F3D stuff...
Even if we only did 5 rounds on the Sunday afternoon it would allow us time to ready our planes and have a few test flights in between the normal Sunday flyers in the morning before we started in the afternoon...
Most of the weekend Sunday social flyers packup and go home around mid day which leaves the field available for the afternoon...
If there are already Q500 pilots that are attending the Saturday event then they could easily bring their F3D's for the Sunday and make a weekend out of it...
The F3D racing will not be sanctioned as an official event so there would be no trophy's etc... Just a practice event etc...
Anyway something to think about... |

Was just a suggestion VooDoo... it would be up to the members to if we could do it... and it wouldn't be something we would be doing forever... just a few times because of the world champs opportunity...
Failing that we could use other Saturdays for the F3D's...
I do like the idea of more than 5 rounds at the QMARA events too if possible... |

Ok, as a CD that has run many events (albeit not pylon) I'll step in and make a suggestion.
Competition days are not "Test flight Days" if you turn up to fly a contest, you should be ready to race, after attending a few meeting now, I am suprised at the amount of test flights thatt occur, and on several occasions, racing has been delayed to accomodate a few more test flights. Dont get me wrong, I love the relaxed atmosphere of QMARA events, but as a suggestion, I beleive that we all - that's right not just F3D - could fly a round or two extra if we made a committment to curtail the test flying, adhere a litttle bit more to start times etc.
Given the nature of pylon events, I think the lunch break is a good thing, because when you are not flying, you SHOULD be doing your share of the helping, and it helps support the host clubs canteen raise some funds, but a 40minute break to have some lunch and reset the course if required should be all that is required.
This all requires the co-operation of all pilots to help the organisers run an efficient event, but it befefits who" Oh thats right US (F3D pilots, and the rest).
This is not a critisism of the running of events, but merely an observation of how you can get more racing if that is what you all want, either way I will be there with bells on!!
there you have my $0.02 worth |

I agree MickeyD, too much stuffing around and not enough racing, but unfortunately not all the guys have somewhere to practice so when they get to the race meeting that is the only chance they have to get sorted out.
If we run everything on the one course size that would help
And Steve, I really do think the Sundays are pretty sacred for the sports flyers up in Maryborough so I donlt think we should step on any toes there and even ask.

| The point that Bruce brought up about not everybody has a place to fly their f3d is a valid point, which is why I think f3d should always be on the sunday morning, that way the guys have saturday afternoon to help get themselves sorted out. In the past some people didn't like the idea of f3d on the sunday because they couldn't have a big night on the saturday night, to them i say tuff shit, what is the priority. |

extra practise for racing F3d yes i think this is a great idear for those who fly them BUT to have another day SUNDAY i think you are playing with fire members sport flyers will say more pylon i pay good money to fly 365 days a year and these pylon guys want to take over MY FIELD
Why dont you use the saturday that you have already got the ok for and get organised and fly then, yes there will be 3 types on one day too bad that way you will not upset the sport flyer and you will have lots of helpers already there and willing to help, if you run F3d on another day all you will have is the F3D flyers to do it all TIME, CUT JUDGE and so on hope my two bobs worth helps
see you all at bundy |

Good point Alan, but we are expecting some big numbers of entries for the Quickie days and we had agreed to keep it as quickies only to give all those guys plenty of racing. Doing a head count the other day it is possible we will have over 25 quickies ( with the 2 classes ) turn up and we want to try to get 9 rounds each class, does not leeave any time for the F3D at all.
We can do the F3D on a different saturday and just split the guys into 2 groups, 1 flying while the other one works, do 3 flights each then swap roles. I think that might be best. If we fly 2 up at a time only, then we only need 3 working.

As CD of QMARA I have been directed by QMARA members at meetings, to be fair, have alternate classes run on Saturday and Sunday
This is why mainly Q500 & F3D are run on Saturday at some race meetings next race meeting on Sunday.
Not one class chould have priority
QMARA members should know this if they go to race meetings more often.
It is very hard to control all the test flying at race meetings .
I have often said do they want to test fly all day or race. |
